Nestled in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, the Township of Lanark Highlands covers 1033.37 square kilometres. Bordered to the north by Renfrew County and to the west by Frontenac County, Lanark Highlands is situated approximately 20 minutes north of Perth.

The municipality is easily accessible by the county road system. County Road 511, which connects Perth to the nearby town of Calabogie, bisects the municipality, and links up with County Roads 9, 8, 16, and 12.

Lanark Highlands is home to several dozen lakes, such as Clayton, Taylor, White, Dalhousie, Patterson, Flower Round and Clyde. The Mississippi River crosses the municipality from west to east and the Clyde River meanders its way from north to south to meet up with the MississippiRiver south of Lanark Village. As its name suggests, Lanark Highlands also offers picturesque vistas of rolling hills and Canadian Shield topography, combining with the abundant water bodies to form prime cottage country.
