The Advanced Technology Education Consortium (ATEC) was formed in 1997. ATEC is a non-share capital corporation with members of the Board of Directors from the Royal Military College, St. Lawrence College, the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics and from the Kingston Community. The leaders (Principal, President, Commandant) of each of these institutions are Board members.

Mandate

Our mandate is:

  • To work regionally and nationally, drawing on Kingston's strength as an education centre, to provide technology education and training for technology based industries and improve the job opportunities of under and unemployed individuals in the community and across Canada
  • To help ensure the economic diversification of Kingston through the development of private and public sector initiatives which meet community needs, take advantage of the human and physical resources of the region, and maintain the quality of living for which the Kingston area has long been known
  • To enhance Greater Kingston as a centre for advanced technology by increasing the opportunities for industry to find stable and suitable education, training and research expertise in the community, and suitable educated employees, and to market Kingston as a location from which advanced technology business can operate.

History

ATEC has combined the capabilities of our organizations in delivering a number of educational programs. These include a Technical Support Specialist program, and a Microelectronics Design Program. Our programs have been formed in concert with representatives from industry and have been designed specifically to meet the needs of industry. ATEC has also undertaken other activities to support our mandate.

PARTNERS

ATEC comprises three of Canada’s leading post-secondary educational institutions: Royal Military College of Canada, St. Lawrence College, and the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics. We have taken our joint educational experience and put it together to design and deliver technology-based programs.
